Double R Rodeo Company, owned and operated by CK Reid, produces livestock for Fort Worth’s Cowtown Coliseum, Billy Bob’s Bull Riding Events and the River Ranch. In 1938, Roland and Mary Jo Reid established the Double R Rodeo Company in Fort Worth, Texas. As the oldest continuously operating rodeo livestock company in Texas, Double R has also been providing high-quality livestock to the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Rodeo Capital of the World, since 1993.
Over 3.3 million people visited the Stockyards in the last year alone. With additional attractions and expansions coming to the Stockyards district, an anticipated 10 million people are expected to visit the Fort Worth Stockyards in the near future. The Cowtown Coliseum built in 1908 held its first rodeo in 1918. Also located in the Fort Worth Stockyards is River Ranch, which also includes an arena, that will be home to the Lonesome Dove Reunion in March 2016. Ashlee Reid, CK Reid’s wife, heads up the marketing, advertising, development and livestock programs for River Ranch Stockyards.
CK Reid began trick roping in Hollywood, CA at the age of 13. He progressed to calf roping and team roping then continued his rodeo career on full scholarship with Texas State University’s Rodeo Team as a part of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. A recognized NRA Champion in 1985, CK graduated with a degree in Ag Business in 1993. He continues in the family business today with a lifetime of “in the saddle” rodeo experience.
Double R Rodeo Company’s livestock inventory consists of seventy-five rodeo bulls, eighty broncs and more than 50 cows and calves maintained in Ellis and Hill County. Double R is also a longtime valued customer of Ark Country Store in Waxahachie, TX. Purina has long been Double R’s feed of choice, according to CK Reid. Purina Precon is the ration fed exclusively to the company’s calves. Purina Mills LLC. also provides a specially created bull ration that includes high fiber and protein to meet the nutrition and diet needs for Double R’s rodeo bulls.
